Sunnydale After Dark
News

Hello, After Darkers!

Now that we’ve cleared out all those pesky evil lawyers, we wanted to thank everyone for the unbelievable level of enthusiasm and participation for the Short and Spuffy event. Blown away doesn’t begin to describe how we feel about the past month.

Here are some fun-filled drabbly facts! buckleup

30 authors wrote a total of 36 Short and Spuffy stories.

Those stories consisted of 1013 drabbles.

4 authors submitted their very first story to Sunnydale After Dark for this event.

81 new members joined the archive during this event.

84 members left comments on the Short and Spuffy stories for a grand total of 17,932 comments. Those comments were only for the drabble event fics!

It’s safe to say we had a blast! En masse! writing

And because we promised the lovely and vocal Discord users who joined us every night for wheel spinning prompt-choosing time, we will now reveal which admins are responsible for the agony, er um the inspiration of each prompt:

sandy_s’s Drabble Prompts

  • Drowning
  • Boxes on a shelf
  • Scent
  • Attainathon
  • Blue and green
  • Kitten
  • Side by side
  • Sacrifice
  • Indirect sunlight
  • The French Quarter

Dusty’s Drabble Prompts

  • The lies you told
  • Crashing
  • Pretty chains
  • Make a choice
  • Lost
  • Message to the moon
  • I think I love you
  • The clock stops
  • A little clue
  • Tempt me

Chelle’s Drabble Prompts

  • Pain
  • Joy
  • Making up
  • Loving you is easy
  • Should we break up?
  • Too much damn drama!
  • Angst is my oxygen
  • Hurt and Comfort
  • Too quiet
  • Just let it all hang out

You can officially lower your pitchforks now. The drabbles turned out amazing!! And really isn’t that what matters? wink

We’ll also confess our April Fools Day roles while we're at it: sandy_s played the part of Buffy, Dusty played the part of Angel, and Chelle played the part of Spike, which surely surprises no one.

Who knows if these guys may grace the archive with a return one day...

All authors, artists, and commenters should have the appropriate awards (and there were a lot of ‘em!) in their profile now. If you feel you are missing one you should have earned, please contact us so we can sort it out!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you thank you for helping this place thrive and uplift.

We love you all. thanks

I’m pretty sure I still don’t know how drabbles work, but this was fun as hell. Thanks for making this space so inviting, thanks for the gorgeous awards, and thanks for just generally being cool AF <3<3<3

Thank you for hosting such an incredible event that was an absolute blast!!
The awards are lovely, too! clap

Wow, those stats are truly mind-blowing! 😍🎉

Honestly I think I was the only one who never tried to guess who came up with which prompt. I just took them and wrote. 😂 But it's fun to discover the 'culprits'. Hahaha, kidding of course, I had a blast!

Chelle, I suspected you were the one behind Spike offering me a cookie. Just know that you made my day! And I really did save a screencap of that. 🤣🍪

Thank you for this event, I got a lot more fun than I ever expected and I got to experiment with new styles that I never considered before. And the awards are the prettiest things ♥️ I confirm that none is missing

You guys can guess that I did the angsty af prompts. I love a good meaty angstfest that rips me to shreds. Reading it. Writing it. Give it to me NOW. :)

Vero, Spike sends his love, pet. Says you made his day.

This was a great idea for an event and very well executed, mods! There was such palpable energy and enthusiasm (even as someone who has yet to make it over to Discord and didn't witness any wheel-spinning). I'm still blown away at not just the number of fics but all the inventive and challenging ways authors approached them. So many made it even HARDER than it already was, and that led to a lot of really impressive creativity and thoughtful drabble pieces. I will eventually get to reading them all because I'm genuinely intrigued to see what everyone came up with.

And also an extra shout-out and kudos to the mods to bringing to life our favorite characters (and Angel, lol). Seriously, all 3 of you killed it with the voices and responses. It was really fun to have that interplay in our little world here. :)

I posted this down below, but I'm posting it here, too:

You guys seriously make me so happy.

I can't believe how much participation this event inspired. The comments alone are astonishing, but the writers who went above and beyond ... wow. Creativity? TEN! Interpreting our prompts in amazingly original ways? 11! I adore all of you so much and your enthusiasm is just beautiful. I am PROUD of you all and proud of this community we've built together. YOU are the reason we're here and YOU are the reason this place is thriving. YOUR voice matters here and always will. So much. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. I wish I could hug you all!

Months and months ago, the SADmins talked about our hopes and our plans and our goals for what we wanted this place to become and you guys have fulfilled it again and again. You showed up and showed out so many times that we can't even believe it.

Thanks for being you. Thanks for being here. Thanks for letting us host your amazing content. And thanks for lifting each other up so often. THAT is what we wanted the very most. :)

XOXO,

Kinda salty I missed the April Fools Day chaos because it seemed like a lot of fun. But genuinely glad I got to participate in the drabbles event! Those stats are amazing, and it was great to see the enthusiasm and encouraging, and of course, the creative talent! Many thanks to the admins for their time and energy in putting it together.

Thank you, mods, for organising this really fun event. It’s fabulous to see so much excited participation across the site and the whole thing really fostered a lot of relationship building between members.
On a personal note, it was a great experience for me to flex my writing muscles again - and in unexpected ways. It shows me that I can do it if I put my mind to it (at least, I can when guided by prompts!).

I loved seeing all the original ways people responded to the various prompts and all the amazing stories they cooked up. I’ve not read them all yet because eventually it become too overwhelming to follow all the entries, but I will finish reading every single one this month!
My favourite prompt was French Quarter - I had an absolute blast with it - so thank you Sandy for that one!

I had a blast joining the drabble fun and writing my first story. This place felt safe to share it and participate. Thanks so much again for all the great work you guys do for this archive.

It was great fun and so wonderful to see so many people participating in one of my favorite things (drabbles).  So many thanks to those who made it possible! I'm still playing catch up on some of them!
