The UI Pains me

Behold D'Hoffryn! Lord of Arashmaharr, he that turns the air to blood and rains death upon lesser websites!

Greetings After Darkers,

As many of you may know, I am your techromancer and resident vengeance daemon. For those who do not know me, know that I am here to unlock the potential of your fandom by improving this website and keeping it running smoothly. While my role here is a quiet one, I want you to know that I am here, listening to the screams of frustration that pierce the dimensional walls of the internet.

I have been working on a few new UI elements in an effort to modernize SAD and its underlying frameworks, and would like to invite you to make wishes of me and my fellow admins. Make your voices heard, show me inspiration like Ms. Rosenberg did with Warren Meers, tell me your vision. Let me elevate you all. If you have ideas, please seek me out, here is my talisman, #dhoffryn-support.

ACK the "stories that slay" and "latest spuffy adventures" on the home page look SOOO cool now!!! Thank you thank you!

Wow, we've got a whole caroussel of moving images on the homepage now, it looks fantastic! All Hail D'Hoffryn! Thank you so much for all the great work you're doing for the site.

I haven't got any major visions (yet), but a very minor point is that I always struggle with clicking in the right place to read the full news items in the Sunnydale Press. My first tendency is to click the headlines (which look very clickable) but instead I have to scroll down and go via the "read more" or the comments instead. So, having the headline link to the full news item would make the site a bit more user-friendly I think, at least for me.

Oooh Double Dutchess, that's a great point! I've done that, too. I like that idea. Thank you!

This is great D’Hoffryn and mods. I’d suggest placing a link to the transcript library on the homepage with a banner button instead of a text link? I think a lot of people use it, easier access.

-- Tessa on 06/16/23 12:12 pm

@Double Duchess - Such a great point. It is done.

-- DHoffryn on 06/16/23 03:58 pm

@Tessa - I like this. Done.

-- DHoffryn on 06/16/23 04:16 pm

Aahh this is amazing!! Thank you D'Hoffryn clap

I was definitely gonna suggest what Tessa and Double Duchess already said, so thank you for those changes! The other thing that comes to mind right now is that I'd love to be able to click on the website name/main banner on top of the page to go to the home page. I know there's a "Home" link in the menu, but I still find it counterintuitive that I can't just click on the website name/main banner.

Delightful, it is done MaggieLeFay

Great suggestions! Love all of these ideas! Thank you, D’Hoffryn!

-- sandy_s on 06/17/23 04:11 pm

Wow - I have no suggestions... I usually just blame myself it something doesn't work, and I'm usually right! LOL. But how wonderful that we have a place to go if/when we want something. Thank you!

-- Slaymesoftly on 06/17/23 06:50 pm

Hi, and thank you for the nice improvements!

Any chance you could make it possible to insert an image to the comments frame? I recently tried and was not able to--no browsing menu showed up when I clicked the image-insert icon, and writing in the path to the desired image I'd saved on my desktop didn't work  either.

I'd understand, though, if you didn't.

Have a good one!

@SlayMe - I look forward to hearing from you as the ideas flow.

@Marina - Forgive me, it sounds like you are putting the desktop location in as the source, you must upload the image to the internet first then put the source location once the image has been uploaded on the internet. You can upload and manage your images on our website: https://www.sunnydaleafterdark.com/user.php?action=manageimages This will show you a preview of the image once its uploaded, and give you the URL you need to put in as the source in your comments. I have just now added some code so there is a new button to copy the source location automatically for you when you click it after uploading your image. I hope this helps you!

I'm pretty content with everything in life so I don't really have any suggestions (I'll let you know if I do), although if you've got a position open I will gladly become a vengeance demon

-- ClowniestLivEver on 06/19/23 09:02 pm

I would love it if there was a Like button next to story titles and chapters.

-- ladymagpie on 06/20/23 05:37 pm

I like your suggestion LadyMagpie. It will take slightly longer to fulfill this wish, but it shall go on the list.

-- DHoffryn on 06/21/23 02:58 pm

Um, how about a way to edit our posts in the chat box?

-- Girlytek on 06/23/23 06:07 am

And also an option to edit or delete a comment on a news post?

-- Tessa on 06/23/23 08:43 am

@GirlyTek and @Tessa - I will look into these, and chat with the SADmins to make sure they are ok with it before enacting such a change. Thank you very much for the ideas!

-- DHoffryn on 06/23/23 01:07 pm

Hope I'm not overstepping, but @Girlytek, you can edit chat box posts already.  If you go to the Chat Archive link, directly under the chat box, it pulls up the entire chat box history.  You can then edit posts that you made.

-- honeygirl51885 on 06/23/23 07:50 pm

@honeygirl Oh hey, look at that, so you can! Thanks! (Definitely not overstepping!)

In that case, can I amend my request to make that feature a little more obvious? And I’ll second Tessa being able to edit comments on news posts—being able to delete the occasional inadvertent double-post for instance would be great :)
