Story Notes: This short fic was born from an idea I had kicking around in my head while I was reading up on The Master for another fic. I really had no intention of even writing another fic, but the idea took hold. So here we are.

It's 12 a.m. eastern, and I am up writing. It's way past my bedtime, so maybe that's why my brain is doing weird things. Anyway, I hope this resonates with someone. The story starts pre-series, touches on season 2, and then stops at season 5 "Fool for Love." One line borrowed from S2 "Becoming Pt. 2."
