Summary: The world around them explodes into overexposure.
It’s like everything trapped inside of her finally gets loose—every bee in her bonnet, all the butterflies in her stomach, every frog in her throat. They all rush out and away, and Dawn is finally empty. Free.
Some of it is Willow. Most of it, even. But a lot of it is her. It’s pink and green and a kaleidoscope of everything that’s ever happened, rushing past her like a brook. Or a river. Or a freaking waterfall. She can’t see Buffy and Spike, but she can feel them, heavy like stones on either side of her essence.
The river only runs in one direction, but Dawn takes hold of her two tethers and uses Willow’s boost to direct their course upstream. It’s a little like ice skating, if ice skating was done on a melting, moving pond with little jet-packs strapped to your skates. She feels Buffy’s ache at her resurrection and Spike’s anguish at their falls. She feels her own transformation—the moment she sprang to life fully formed.
Then Spike snags on something significantly less important and slips out of reach.

Tara’s time away from the gang gives her enough of a bird’s eye view to see that something is seriously wrong in Sunnydale… something that’s been wrong since Christmas Eve of 1998. Dawn, Buffy, and Spike head back in time to fix it.

He was hauling around a sweet-smelling bundle of youth– a fresh-faced little girl whose thundering blood reeked of the unripened energy Angelus had always been fondest of before he’d been saddled with a soul. She was shivering with fear, fumigating the room with it. Her big blue eyes darted between her captor and the beast before her.
Laughter burbled up out of Spike’s throat. Disbelief. After a century of being a great, big, useless sod… “I'll be damned.”
